Making Christmas Gingerbread biscuits is a great way to have fun and bring the whole family together during the festive period. Make them for yourselves, family members, and neighbors. or even leave them out for Santa on Christmas Eve. Whoever they are for, make them bold and bright and go wild with the endless possibilities for decoration!
What you’ll need:
Gingerbread
- 225g Plain flour
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 heaped tsp ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 50g unsalted butter
- 100g soft brown sugar
- 100g golden syrup
Icing
- 125g icing sugar
- 15ml warm water
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
Part One
- Preheat your oven to 190c or gas mark 5.
- Line a baking tray with baking parchment
- Sieve the dry ingredients into a large bowl (flour, salt, bicarb, ginger and cinnamon)
- Heat the butter, sugar and syrup until it has dissolved
- Leave the dissolved mixture to cool a little and then mix in the dry ingredients so it comes to a dough
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes
Part Two
- Lightly dust a surface with flour and roll out the dough to 1cm thickness.
- Stamp out your shapes with your chosen cutter/s and re-roll the dough until all of it has been used up
- Place the gingerbread onto your lined tray (not too close together as they will merge!)
- Cook for 10-15 minutes and remove them from the oven
- Leave to cool
- DECORATE!
